Annett House is the only purpose built Abbeyfield House in the Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead district. It was built in 1983 in Common Gardens, Potten End when the resident of nearby Pond Cottage donated half of her garden to the Society. The house has recently undergone further improvement and now contains ten two room suites to provide separate living and sleeping areas, all with en suite facilities and all of which are on the ground floor for easy access. Most of the suites have a door onto the grounds as well as a lockable door from the main house and apart from a fitted vanity unit with cupboards is unfurnished so that residents may provide their own selection of furniture and furnishings. The bathrooms contain a walk-in shower, toilet and hand basin with the exception of two bathrooms which has recently been refurbished and contains a bath. A separate communal bathroom with a bath is available to other residents.
In addition to a large communal lounge/dining room there is a spacious and comfortable conservatory (adjacent to the lounge) which can be enjoyed throughout the year. A door from the conservatory allows direct access to the grounds and a small courtyard. There is a small car park at the front of the building for use by residents or visitors. Annett House is surrounded by a well-tended garden which some residents choose to assist with (as much or as little as they wish).
As well as Potten End village hall which is opposite Annett House, the house is conveniently situated for the village green, a small village shop and Holy Trinity church (C of E).
Annett House has a dedicated House Manager who oversees a team of staff, and is responsible for the welfare of the residents and the day to day running of the house. Annett House is staffed 7 days per week, and staff are responsible for providing the delicious home cooked meals daily. There is a careful hand over between staff to ensure any matters of concern can be dealt with efficiently.
Annett House as with all Abbeyfield houses is run by a committee of volunteers who are dedicated to the well being of its residents and the smooth running of the house for the benefit of all. They make regular visits to the house and provide invaluable support to the housekeeper with one member of the committee always on call should they be needed. They are always willing to meet with residents or their sponsor to discuss any concerns which arise.
