Common Questions about Abbeyfield

How do I know if I will fit in to the House?

We appreciate that each Abbeyfield House is different and that is why we ask to come and stay for a week’s trial when you are considering moving into an Abbeyfield. This gives you a chance to see if you like our House and if you feel you will ‘fit in’, as well as give us a chance to assess if we are able to fully meet your needs.

What sort of meals can I expect?

Lunch is the main meal of the day in our House and you can usually expect a meat or fish dish together with a selection of vegetables, typically cottage pie or a roast dinner. The house manager will try to accommodate individual tastes as far as practicable and any specific requirements should be discussed when you come for your trial stay.

What if I have a problem?

If you have any problem with your accommodation or any other aspect of Abbeyfield please feel free to mention it to the house manager who will either be able to deal with it directly or will arrange for the appropriate member of the house management committee to deal with it. If you would prefer to speak to a member of the house management committee directly just tell the house manager that you would like to do so and she will arrange for this as soon as practicable.

Can I have pets for company?

Unfortunately no we cannot allow pets at our house.

Can my family come and see me whenever they want to?

Yes, we welcome visits from your family and friends and you may choose whether to entertain them in your room or in the communal lounge. They are welcome at any reasonable time but we would ask that they have consideration for other residents. If your family have a long distance to travel we may be able to offer them guest accommodation if a room is available, please ask.
