Social Activities
Each of our houses organises social activities for the benefit of the residents. Naturally the residents are free to choose whether or not to attend these activities and can socialise as much or as little as they wish.
Each house holds weekly coffee mornings which gives the residents a chance to get together with members of the house committee and/or social committee for an informal chat. From time to time these coffee mornings are made open events, usually incorporating a bring and buy sale, with friends of the house, sponsors and also residents of the other houses invited to come along and join in the fun. Any funds raised on these mornings are used for the benefit of the residents or occasionally the event is held in aid of a specific charity and the funds sent to that charity.
Some of the houses also arrange for guest speakers or musicians to come in to entertain the residents. For example Sibley’s Orchard are always pleased to welcome the local church choir just before Christmas for a carol concert followed by mulled wine and mince pies. St. Mary’s House have a varied programme of speakers at their Wednesday coffee mornings with subjects recently as diverse as buying a second home/living abroad, birds likely to be seen in the garden and being a WREN just after the second world war!
Other activities may include a weekly knitting circle, quizzes and scrabble mornings.
Residents are strongly encouraged to suggest activities that they may like to see in the house and wherever possible the house manager and/or house committee will try to arrange these.
